Hack a Universal Remote to Control Your LightsDo you have one of those universal remotes laying around that you can't use with all your equipment? Over on the hacking blog Handya, Andy shows off how to hack a light switch so you can control it with the remote you already have sitting around.

The hack uses pretty much any old universal remote, an IR receiver, and an AVR microcontroller. The whole thing is packed into the light switch on the wall with a mounting block so the IR sensor can receive the input from the remote. Now Andy can control his entire home theater system—including dimming the lights—with one single remote. Head over to Handya for a a guide, photos of the process, and the code you'll need to make this for yourself.
